Jamal and McKinnon's view on the power of giving can benefit faculty, staff , and new students who might participate in a new student reading program. It covers topics that are understandable to the 18-year-old, first-year student as well as to the 38-year-old transfer student.

"The Power of Giving Away Power" captures the mindset that has drawn so many people to Matthew and more importantly highlights his optimistic view of the potential in people and the power unlocked when leaders create the right environment to let others shinetogether.
Giving never, ever comes from guilt, obligation, or compulsion. Giving is not some religious tax that Christians are required to meet. Jesus came to push aside that kind of giving, and to fulfill it with something better. Matthew 11:30 tells us that "His burden is light". Jesus is not the heavenly IRS.
esus said, "When you give . . . your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you" (Matt. 6:3-4). When we give, we are not simply adding to the Church budget; we are giving a thank offering to the Father Himself. Thus, we must give "as unto the Lord" (Col. 3:23). Our ultimate goal in giving is to please Him.
